Why you should start a YouTube channel in 2025

Someone recently asked me a thought-provoking question:
“If you could get rid of every single social media platform and choose just one for your business, which one would you choose?”
Without skipping a beat, I said YouTube — and here's why.

1. YouTube Builds Trust Through Long-Form Content

Unlike platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, or even X (formerly Twitter), YouTube is built for long-form content. Sure, those shorter platforms offer quick dopamine hits, but they don’t make it easy to build deep relationships with your audience.

On YouTube, people are showing up because they want to spend time with you. They’re listening to your story, learning from your expertise, and often watching you for 5, 10, or even 30 minutes. That level of attention is golden — and it's how trust is built, which ultimately helps you grow your business faster and more meaningfully.

This is what I have seen in the past 9 months as I have been growing my YouTube channel from the ground up.

2. YouTube Connects Us and helps our loneliness

I grew up in the early 2000s, a time I believe was the peak era before tech fully took over. Back then, we rode bikes, played outside, and came home when the streetlights turned on. Much of my childhood was spent drawing and imagining.

Today’s generation is different. We live on our phones, and many of us are lonelier than ever.

But here’s the beautiful part: YouTube can be a lifeline.
Have you ever watched a video from your favorite YouTuber and instantly felt a connection? Maybe it was a cooking tutorial or an encouraging faith message. For a moment, you didn’t feel so alone. That’s the magic of YouTube. It builds real connection in a disconnected world.

When you participate in YouTube, you become a part of the magic and people will never forget the way that your content impacts them.

3. God Speaks Through YouTubers

Some of my favorite ministries are on YouTube and they’ve impacted my walk with God deeply.
If you’re a Christian and this idea has been tugging at your heart, let this be your confirmation:

👉 Stop waiting.
👉 Stop overthinking.
👉 Just pick up the camera and start.

God may want to use you to reach someone who needs encouragement, truth, or simply someone to relate to. It has amazed me the stories I have heard of people who watched a video and were inspired or changed by something that they heard. Even the people who are silent watchers and don’t comment are getting something from the content that you create.

4. YouTube Is Lucrative (Even With a Small Following)

I have less than 500 subscribers at the time of writing this, and I’ve already seen the potential YouTube has for generating income. The beauty of YouTube is its long shelf-life. You could post a video today and see it go viral months or years later.

Unlike TikTok’s newer (and less consistent) creator fund, YouTube’s monetization model gives you a more stable and long-term return. It’s one of the few platforms where you can literally make money in your sleep.

5. You’ll Learn Priceless Skills

YouTube doesn’t just grow your platform — it grows you.

In the process, you’ll learn how to:

  • Film and edit

  • Speak clearly and confidently

  • Structure your thoughts

  • Stay consistent and persevere through setbacks

When I first started, I used my iPhone and filmed by a window. No lights. No fancy mic. No excuses. And guess what? That was enough to get going.

You don’t need everything to start. You just need the courage to begin.

The #1 Mindset Holding You Back

Ready for it?

“I need to have everything before I start.”

This mindset is paralyzing. You see others with fancy cameras, perfect lighting, and sleek editing — and suddenly you feel like what you have isn’t enough.

Let me be real with you:
It took me five years to finally upgrade my equipment. FIVE. And I don’t regret starting with less, because if I had waited until I had all the tools, I’d still be waiting.

The truth is, most of the pros started messy too. They just kept going.
Don’t fall into the trap of comparison. Start with what you have, where you are, and let the journey refine you.

Final Thoughts + A Prayer

If you’ve been sitting on the idea of starting a YouTube channel, I hope this post gave you the push you needed. And if you’re still nervous, let me pray for you:

Dear Lord,
Thank You for the person reading this. I know You’ve placed an idea in their heart  and I ask You to give them the strength to move forward. Provide the tools, time, and courage they need to begin. Use them in powerful ways to inspire and impact others online.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

If you have questions, drop them in the comments — I’d love to help however I can.

Thank you so much for reading. And remember, don’t wait for perfect — just start.
